What factors do you think make some organizations ineffective at managing emotions?

When it comes to handling emotions and feelings within an organization I feel there is usually a major lack of training. Everyone has different personalities, not everyone can handle emotions the same and this is where managers as well as employees need to be trained properly to learn how to understand different feelings and emotions. I know this would be an expense towards the company but proper training would greatly improve employee morale as well as help their staff to learn how to understand how to handle emotional situations.

Another factor that I have seen in organizations is that emotions were considered disruptive which they felt interfered with employee’s ability to work. Employees were not allowed to express frustration within the workplace, but they did not realize that emotions are a part of everyday life.

Do you think the strategic use and display of emotions serve to protect employees, or does covering your true emotions at work lead to more problems than it solves?

I am constantly telling my 13 year old son (Daniel) that “there is a time and a place to show your emotions.” I think this quote fits the workplace as well. I am hoping that my helping Daniel understand when it is ok to show his emotions and when it is necessary to keep calm and hold them in, will help him experience emotional intelligence when he hits adulthood. Emotional intelligence is the ability to detect and to manage emotional cues and information ((Robbins & Judge, 2013, p. 113). Daniel has a teacher (we could say his manager) who is very hard to get along with for most all of his students.
