Final Assignment

When it comes to the future of policing we want to know that the residents of our communities are safe along with the police officers that patrol them are safe. We need to know the different things that the police officers have come up to make these things safer and to ensure their ongoing safety.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and the numerous police departments have developed a group called the police futurist group. With this they are working on strategies and are also forecasting ways to ethically maximize the effectiveness of the local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies. They are also trying to maintain peace and a sense of security. I believe that with this they are developing new ways to do a better job in the future. I believe that the tools that they have developed are exceptional, not only do they help and catch an offender but they can also save a life.

I think that the databases that all of the agencies share is a major tool in this. Having this database in place allows all of the different agencies work together and help each other out. I believe that one of the best databases that they have is the one that has the DNA and the fingerprints incorporated within it, this helps because it can help find an offender in seconds or minutes rather than days or weeks. Another great data base is a license plate reader. This allows them to get the information for bank robbers, kidnappers, or just about anything quickly and relay the information faster, this is good is they are trying to catch a terrorist before an act of terrorism occurs ("Futures Working Group," n.d.).

With the databases in operation they have been able to look at cold cases again and then they are able to run the DNA through the database to try and help them solve the case, or find a new lead.
