1. Provide information on the school administrator with whom you collaborated on this assignment.

The administrator with whom I collaborated with on this assignment holds a Master’s degree in education and is the principal at Sunset Elementary School. He has been a classroom teacher for ten years and in an administrative position for over five years. Previously he was a consulting teacher and a part of our districts program to help support and mentor beginning teachers. He was also an trainee under Michael Grinder who is a former teacher who is now well known for his training in non-verbal communication and for his work in many districts and schools.

Racial characteristics that are relevant to the problem presented in this case are that Memorial Park High School has a diverse environment primarily composed of African American and Caucasian students with a few Hispanic and Asian American students. One of the larger issues presented concerns the discipline of racial and ethnic minority students. There is increasing evidence that African American and other minority students are disciplined at greater rates at Memorial Park High School than their Caucasian counterparts. The superintendent noted that recently the expulsion and suspension rate is 200 percent higher for minority students than for nonminority students. The social and economic characteristics that must be taken into consideration include the overall demographics of Central City’s population. Crime rates and violence has not been reduced and 40 percent of the children are living in poverty. Other children have sadly become products of their environment where they have become victims of physical and emotional abuse.
