Chapter 1

Introduction

Artistry plays a big role towards society, whether it is advertising, game development or even animation. Many artists are highly paid even though this profession is not “in-demand”. Though it may seem being an artist sounds easy, they also encounter problems. It could be either financial, health or social.

1 Background of the study

Despite their efforts, artists here in the Philippines lack promotion, and thus, not renowned. Nowadays, people prefer westerns and manga styled arts. This research will give the importance of the art in the society and hopefully, help the promotion of the Filipino artistry.

1.2 Objectives of the study

The objectives of this study are simple, to know what are factors that possibly be the problems/ casualties that are encountered by an artist in order to give a possible solution. To determine what is the relation between arts and the society.

1.3 Statement of the problem

This study focuses on the significance of the artistry in the society today. To address the problem, the specific questions follow:

1. What are the crisis/ problems that the artist encounters?

2. Is the artist appreciated or credited enough for his work?

3. Is he/she “in condition” to make art?

1.4 Scope and Delimitation

This research focuses on the average artist living in Metro Manila, Philippines who’s studying Multimedia Arts in STI Caloocan.

1.5 Significance of the study

To understand the importance of being an artist and to know how big the role they play towards society, this study is expected to benefit the following: For the old artists, to encourage them to share their experience and hopefully, teach the new generation of artists in the near future. For the new artist, we expect them to learn something about the experiences from the veterans or the experienced. And for the ones who are fascinated in artistry, we want to show the fun and excitement that lies ahead in being an artist regardless of the problems...
