Progressive Era

The Great Depression was one of the hardest times in our great nation’s history; this was a time of poverty and struggle for all Americans. There were several contributing factors to this Era that helped turn it around as well as things during this time that can be compared to our recent situation in this great nation. In this essay I will discuss several things that helped turn this around as well as how it compares to us now and how things from this Era helped change the way we do business even to this day.

One of the first major historical turning points in the Great Depression was when President Roosevelt enacted the New Deal. This New Deal would expand the role of the Federal Government into the economic lives of ordinary Americans to an unprecedented degree. The New Deal was going to bring relief and structure back to America it was to be headed up by Roosevelt’s Brain Trust which was a collection of some of the sharpest minds in the country to bring the economy back of to strength. During the first phase of the New Deal FDR enacted some relief acts to help out the banks and the people to help stir up the exchange rate. He started the Emergency Banking Relief and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration to help these helped make new jobs for people to work all over the country and it got people to start trusting their money in the banks again to build the price of commodities and trade. After he was able to provide some relief to the country and was able to get the money flowing again the new deal began recovery programs such as the National Industrial Recovery Act this act made it possible for Unions to organize and sit down to establish things like fair wages, set working hours during the week, and establish good working environments.
