1.) What communication barriers are likely to arise when using electronic mail?

Email is an effective means of communication for business and personal use but it also has some disadvantages that cause communication barriers.

- Email can become time consuming for answering complicated questions and misunderstanding can arise because cultural differences in the interpretation of certain words. The telephone is much better for providing detailed answers or if you fell that the question is not absolutely clear.

- Email can compromise the security of an organization because sensitive information can be easily distributed accidently or deliberately. As one of the oldest forms of online communications, email was conceived at a time when security was not a major concern. As email has evolved and experienced widespread adoption, the security danger has increased. Unfortunately, security measures have not always kept pace with the threats. Viruses like worms, Trojan horses & phishing are just a few of ongoing security threats.

- Email can become impersonal or misunderstood. The use of pronouns can lead to serious misunderstandings. Users should always try to write the full description rather than abbreviate their sentences with pronouns.

2.) The beneficial effects of having fun at work are relatively easy to see. What are some of the possible dysfunctional effects of such a culture?

Having fun at work or a fun workplace is often viewed as a positive aspect of organizational culture, but they can also be the cause of discomfort for employees and inefficiency in the organization. Such related dysfunctional effects are:

 Increase of accident rates.

 Reports of Sexual harassments.

 Boundary violations.

 Frequency of employee errors made due to lack of focus or too much distractions.

 Cost of operations.

 Equipment damage by playfulness

 Professionalism at work is affected.
