While working in a team environment, trust and dependability are crucial for succeeding in the demanding world of business. When all ties have been cut or crossed regarding trust issues while working inside a team environment, the outcome may be very detrimental to the future success of the organization at hand. Such examples of working environments that have gone bad are the case in most recent history regarding Enron. “A top deputy to former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling on Tuesday testified that his boss often lied about the company’s high-speed Internet business” (Technology daily, 2009, Courts: Witness: Ex-Enron CEO Lied About Broadband Unit, ¶1). Jeffrey Skilling has also repeatedly lied to investors and analysts regarding the financial well being of the broadband business with other Enron employees such as Kenneth Rice, and Andrew Fastow. The broadband unit played a key role in Enron’s stock up rise during that period.

During the course of the Enron scandal, a former Enron secretary testified to being ordered to lie about the financial statements regarding the financial stability of the organization. The founder of Enron Ken Lay, and top deputy of the organization Jeffrey Skilling, was being targeted for defrauding the giant corporation. Such accusations included the sales of unused fiber-optic cable being sold and used to cover up the actual value of Enron’s broadband unit. This scenario is a prime example of how trust issues can go awry in a business environment that is not handled properly. A learning lesson can be made off the past mistakes made by others; organizations can only hope it will help the business leaders of the future as well.
