After reading the various viewpoints by the columnists, I’m in favor of gun control. I believe gun control should become more strict because I feel that it will help bring gun violence down. I feel that if gun control becomes more strict less guns are available which causes less crime. Without strict gun control, guns are practically exposed to anyone and aren’t that hard to obtain. If you restrict the guns, you bring down and limit the selling and purchasing of guns thus making crime go down. Everyday people have access to them including children and lunatics, which could cause even more harm to society. Kids could accidentally shoot themselves or other children and most crimes are done by mentally ill people. Therefore, the more exposure to everyday people the more crime. People could argue that restricting guns goes against the second amendment, but in fact the second amendment states that you can bear guns for the militia not for individual use. Society today is not forming states militias therefore, it is not going against the people’s rights. In the articles I read in class, the CSM Editorial Board and Kristof are in favor to have more gun control because they feel that publicity is also another reason of why the gun violence is so high. The more that gun violence is publicized, the more the people go out an do crazy things for attention and nonsense. When people publicize the violence, it creates a stir and the easy access to guns, and provides opportunities for more crime. Overall, I am for more gun control to bring down the level of gun violence.
