Part I. What is a Hero?

I think every person in this world have already dreamt of being a hero. When I was young, really, really young my concept of being a hero is acquiring special powers and saving the world at the end of the day; in short, superheroes. When I started going to school, I always say that my parents are my heroes because they are always there to protect you. They support you but when you do something wrong they remind you and lead you to the right way. But school introduced me to the concept of being a “hero” which is sacrificing yourself for the love of your country. But as I grew up, my idea on what being a hero is all about evolves and matures.

As I have said earlier, when I was young superheroes were my heroes. Actually, I still believe that a hero should still be somewhat like a superhero. A hero should possess unique qualities that can save the people. Not flying or being able to lift a very heavy object or maybe laser eyes but the power to lead and inspire the people to fight on what they believe in. It should be a person who has that certain vibes that would push the people to trust in themselves. A hero should have the strength to handle the problems of the people. Unlike superheroes that they work ALONE, real life heroes should INVOLVE the people in every step of the way in their fight towards their goal so that they would further understand their situation. He or she should be ONE with the people. But of course, before he or she could push people to trust their guts, he or she first should be confident that he or she can lead the people to victory. He or she doesn’t need to be well-educated or have a high socio-economic status. As long as he understands the sentiments of the people and fights with them, he is a hero.
