I. WHAT IS SMARTER PHILIPPINES?
Smarter Philippines is the DOST’s over-arching developmental program to
leverage S&T and ICT for an enhanced quality of life for all Filipinos and sustained,
high inclusive growth for the Philippines. It has two major components, Smarter
Cities for urban development, and Smarter Countryside for rural development.
Following several months of consultations with stakeholders, Science Secretary Mario G.
Montejo publicly announced Smarter Philippines at the 5th National ICT Confederation of the
Philippines (NICP) Summit last Nov. 22, 2012 in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Preparations are underway for the public launch of Smarter Philippines at an event with NICP
and other partners, tentatively on Feb. 20, 2013 in Davao City.
