Bottlenecks in a Process

Abstract

Using a flowchart helps with the day-to- day operations in how processes are performed. On occasions when a process in the operation may not run efficient. Using a metrics measure is a tool is good way to measure the effectiveness of a process. Using the flowchart I created, will provide me the information I will need be able to identify and explain where there could be potential bottlenecks.

According to Chase, Jacobs, and Aquilano, a bottleneck is, “a resource that limits the capacity or maximum output of a process” (Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano, 2006). Charts, diagrams, worksheets, and graphs, are reprehensive variations of tools used by businesses to gather information. To be more efficient iIdentifying bottlenecks in a process allowsgives thea business a chance to make necessary changes to improve the process. Using my own flowchart, I will examine my morning process to see if there are any bottlenecks, which would disrupt the process.

Bottleneck

With any process, there will always be something that could potentially disrupt it. This disruption could come in many forms. To ensure that a process will run smoothly, it helps to identify any key errors. When key errors have been identified as potential, it puts a business in a better position into preventing them. This in turn will make the process run more efficient.

Indentifying the Bottleneck in My Morning Process

My day starts the same every work day. The alarm goes off and I get up and proceed to follow the above steps to get ready to leave my house by 4:00 a.m. I have identified one potential bottle neck in my process, and that is if I do not wake up when my alarm goes off.
