Requirements to open a playschool-

Step 1

Learn the requirements for opening a preschool in your jurisdiction. Laws vary from state to state, but they are typically the same as daycare laws. You can find requirements online or by calling your local Department of Child Welfare, Department of Health and Human Services or a similar agency. In most places, you have to complete a licensing application, pay a fee and submit to criminal and child abuse background checks to obtain licensing. Your facility may be subject to a licensing inspection as well.

Step 2

Meet educational requirements for running a preschool. In some states, the director of a preschool must have a degree or credits in an education-related field. If you do not have the required credits or degree, you may hire a director to fill this position while you work towards fulfilling the education requirements.

Step 3

Secure a business license for your preschool. Obtaining this license gives you the right to run a business in the area. In some cities, you will need a business license even if you run a preschool in your own home.

Step 4

Prepare a business plan for your preschool business. Plan the launch of your business, including start-up costs and advertising. Include details about how you will pay licensing fees, salaries, rent or a mortgage until you start earning a profit. In addition, add the maximum number of children you will accept, how much you will charge, your hours of operation and your policies for holiday closings to your plan.

Step 5

Choose a location for your preschool business. Lease or buy commercial space or open a preschool in your own home. Check your state standards to learn how much space you will need based on the number of children you plan to accept.

Step 6
