Cultural considerations

There are many things to consider in international business negations. Because people are influenced by culture and beliefs that surround them managers must educate themselves in a way to bridge that gap in order to form a successful business relationship (3) Cultural beliefs can determine importance placed on different aspects of the negation process. Therefore being able to identify these important factors will provide a guideline for the negation ( ). First consider the negation goals this can help one understand how to precede with the other culture involved. In this case china believes in a relationship based philosophy as opposed to contractual like Americans do.(2) This means to foster the building and nurturing of the desired relationship giving the perception of honesty and ethicality on the part of the negotiating businesses.(2). American cultures on the other hand have a very individualist and aggressive approach. The next few areas to then look at are negotiating attitudes, direct or indirect and formal and in formal. There must be a clear understanding of who you’re dealing with and how to approach them in order to create a mutual respect. Chinese culture dictates a collaborative relationship base while Americans tend toward aggressive win-lose style of exchange in process. How to address the other members involved for example by title, or surname in addition to the ability to perceive facial expression and body language is also critical. Time constraints and emotion are other areas to think about. This meaning for Americans they feel a quick contractual agreement is best while Chinese like to get to know who they are doing business with because time does not plays a important role.
