Live Performance Assignment

K-State Combos

First of all, I was really enjoy the live performance, and the musics were really wonderful and amazing, and this assignment is a nice experience in my college life. In fact, I attended two concerts; one was the K-State Big Bands which was on November 28th in the Forum Hall, and another was the K-State Combos which was on the November 29th in Union too. Compare these two concerts, I can not tell which one is better, but I like the Combos more because the whole performance, instruments, melody are my favorite, and I am still exciting when I am recalling the concert even now.

The name of the concert is K-State Combos. The concert was on November 29th and located in the K-State Union Station (SalsaRita's). The concert had four parts, and each parts included two-four songs.

➢ First is Mambo Combo ( Dr. Kurt Gartner, Director), and this part contains three songs, which are La Charanga ( Jose Fajardo), Lagrimas Negras ( Miguel Matamoros), and Azteca ( Marty Sheller). Then, the performers and instruments are Aaron Fisher--Trumpet, David Struss--Trombone, Brett Eichman--Piano, Nolan Groff--Bass, and so on.

➢ Second is Housewreckers ( Mr. Gordon Lewis, Director), and this part contains two songs which are Are You Real ( Benny Golson) and Yardbird Suite ( Charlie Parker). Then the performers and instruments are Nolan Groff--Bass, Hale Weirick--Tenor Sax, Jason Taylor--Drums, Daniel Dissmore--Trumpet, Ezra Hallman--Piano, Hakan Yasarer--Guitar, and Kendall Lubay--Bass.

➢ Third is Swing Machine (Dr. Wayne Goins, Director), and this part concludes four songs, which are The Way You Look Tonight ( Jerome Kern), Detour Ahead ( Ellis/Frigo/Carter), Sky Blue ( Maria Schneider), and Mr. P.C. ( John Coltrane). Then, the performers and instruments are Robby Avila--Alto Saxophone, Ike Hamm--Tenor Saxophone, "Slick" Rick Smith--Guitar, Bobby Scharmann--Bass, Patrick Sullivan--Trombone, Jenny Good--Piano, and so on.
