I am currently in the process of helping a friend get her non-profit up and running. Before I began helping her, I worked with her at another non-profit that dealt with the same issue. While employed there we found several things were lacking and decided to venture off on our own.

In our resources for this week, there were three things that continued to jump out at me; transparency, accountability, and authenticity.

First transparency: While working at the previous non-profit, I found out that there were some things that they were not up front about they lacked, as Ferazzi put it, candor. Ferazzi stated that candor “frees you” and I completely agree. I know that going forward into this new venture that all of us involved have to be up front and honest about everything and that we have to respect the opinions of each other.

Second accountability: This new non-profit is going to demand that we are accountable for everything that we do, say, or spend. We have to have the mindset that we need to get thing done. (Ferazzi, 2007) There will only be two of us in the office to begin with and we will be the ones that will be held accountable for all things that initially happen. We have put ourselves in that position and anxiously await the turn out.

Third and last authenticity: When I think about this word, it truly envelops the person who is going to be running this non-profit. She is real down to every last letter of the word. She has put the needs of others ahead of her own and she is the person who wants to see everyone around her succeed. I feel that being around her has helped me to see the good in people and it was easy to embrace her passion for a change.
