PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Having a good education is the key factor for a country to build a strong nation. It is the greatest aspect in the development of every citizen/individual. Their direction towards success will greatly depend on how they plan and perform their respective roles in the country especially in the school where learning takes place.

Planning is about looking ahead for future courses of action. It is the preparatory step to a more systematic activity which will determine when, how, and who is going to perform the desired task. It also includes the measures that will be used to determine whether the expectations and goals are being met.

As time passed by, the expectation of every individual tends to change. When the curriculum changes the format in lesson planning will also be changed. The different formats have been used in our education system to ensure quality education and to produce a competent individual in the near future.

Lesson plan serves as a guide for the teacher as well as for the students to accomplish one’s lesson. In the Basic Education Curriculum a teacher centered plan has been used or usually known as the traditional format of the lesson plan. The focus of this lesson plan is more of the teacher’s activity. In elementary level this format is advisable even in this generation.

Last few year outcomes based has been considered as a new approach for learning. Some schools used this approach to develop a higher quality of education. As well as the backward design for lesson planning has been applied to learning and it is called Understanding by Design (UbD).

According to (Wiggins 2005), UbD has 3 stages. First is the desired result wherein the students will clarify the learning that they seek from the lesson. Followed by assessment evidence that will certify whether the students really...
