Dr. Gonzalez-Guerda,
I hope all is going well with all of your research endeavors and your family as well. I was emailing you for a more personal matter that I am encountering and wanted your professional opinion or advice. I am having a really hard time in finding a position as a new grad. I have passed my boards and am getting ACLS certified next month. I have filled out what seems like mounds of applications and do not know what else to do to secure an interview. I feel like if I do not know anyone who works in that facility I will not even get a fair opportunity. On top of that I am a HRSA scholar and have to be employed by a non-profit organization. Would you know of any off hand that need nurses? A lot of applications are saying no new grads apply and the ones that do, the nurse recruiter told me they are overwhelmed with applicants trying to apply. I have a Jackson Job fair this upcoming Thursday and am getting nervous as to what they will expect and what I can do to really stand out as a graduate nurse. I know I have the drive and determination and know that I went into nursing to really make a difference in patient’s lives but how do I convey that to people who will not even give me a chance to show them my potential? It is getting a bit disheartening and I just wanted your advice as to what to do. Was there anything you did that helped you gain clinical experience as well as what you needed to be such a successful nurse in our field? Thank you in advance for all of your help, time and consideration.
