1) Describe three different American Indian cultures prior to colonization. | 1200-1900C.E. | The Anasazi inhabited the Southwest including Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. They were artisans in stonework, cotton fabrics, and basketmaking. They were agriculturalists and astronomers, and built elaborate dwellings and road networks for trade. The Iroquois were one of the largest tribes, dividing into a League of several nations with diverse languages and traditions and were best known as the People of the Longhouse for their multigenerational dwellings. Algonkian tribes were located in the Northeast and were the first to encounter Europeans. The Algonkians subsisted on both hunting and agriculture. |
