Introduction

To debate as to whether cinemas and movies are equivalent recreational activities as opposite to other amusements for people would be a great endeavor. There has been little research in Pakistan to find any correlation between these broad terms but international studies upon media entertainment show that cinema culture influences remarkably in shaping people’s lives according to the customs endemic in a particular society. Film is the most powerful form of all communication techniques and it leaves a profound impact on the psyche of an individual and in turn affects the society. This influential tool is used for portraying the culture, problems, and dreams of a society. As the world has turned into a global village, cinema and filmmaking plays an important role not only in promoting cultural values and bonding different nations but also in providing an alternate way of expression.

Entertainment industry, which includes the wide, cross section of amusement activities, cinema is one major sub category. Over the long history, cinema remained the primary focus of the people for satisfying their recreational needs. People remained in touch with this particular dimension of the entertainment relying heavily upon their interests and celebrities working in the picture. In that sense, cinema industry has been able to address various tastes and interest people might have, with providing films ranging from action and horror to love and romantic stories. However, in Pakistan, we do not have a big and competitive film industry but peoples’ interest towards cinema is very high.
