This assignment is primarily about SWOB (strength, weakness, opportunities and barriers). Every individual has the potential to achieve their goals but some internal/external factors can prevent you from attaining goals in the set time. The positive internal factors are known as strengths and negative factors are known as weaknesses. The external environmental factors can have a negative or a positive impact on the final outcome. The positive factors are opportunities and negatives are barriers. There are also environmental qualities that can effect the outcome of your progress. Setting objectives encourage focus; all career development needs set objectives.

Chapelhow et al (2005) states that SWOB analysis helps us to learn and develop new skills and adapt to new ideas/situations by using SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) objectives which are imperative for the effective functioning of organisations. SMART is an acronym to set apt goals in an effective way. Drucker (1995) and Doran (1991) were the forerunners that applied the term SMART in reference to objectives. SMART is commonly used among managers to set goals within appraisals and performance management systems. An objective is a statement that an individual/team/organisation wants to achieve in a specific period of time which is achievable.

According to Timmins and McCabe (2006), self-awareness is a significant tool for improving interaction with patients and an integral part of nurse education. Self-awareness helps me to choose group discussions as a part of learning and is supported and encouraged by my colleagues. My engagement in group discussion has boosted by confidence and increased my sense of independence and individuality.
