Before I took the StrengthsFinder test, I expected Individualization to be applied to me. Within my Human Resources’ role, I enjoy going into an organization and learning about the employees and figuring out what they excel in. Careful, firm-specific HR practices help certain individuals perform better. I can see when employees do not think that management is listening or that they really do not believe that an organization is changing for the better.  I set out to reverse that, by demonstrating that I really do care about each individual in the company.

The other four strengths are arranger, strategic, responsibility and developer. As an arranger, I like to understand the inner workings of an organization. I like to understand how sales and marketing interacts or impacts finance or vice versa. I enjoy moving throughout the day handling unexpected situations as they arise. I enjoy working with people and creating a cohesive productive team. When I link myself to the strategic theme, I think of my ability to overcome obstacles. If I really want something and there is a roadblock in my way, I will think of different alternatives in order to get what I want. I can express ideas and feelings with ease. I enjoy helping certain individuals select the best alternative after having weighed the pros and cons and using available resources.

As much as I believe in the benefits of focusing and utilizing the strengths, I also see a potential problem of over relying on strengths. I can see this thanks to my strategic theme, I guess. When you over rely on a few strengths, you run a risk of losing balance and missing something that is so obvious otherwise (Lopez, Hodges, Harter, 2010).
