Maintenance and Support Overview –

Maintenance and support, although it is not taken very seriously during some projects, is a very important part of all projects in the planning, designing, and implementation phases. Awareness of possible needs, both during the project phases and in the future of the systems existence, is extremely important. If such possible needs or issues arise during the project, and there has not been sufficient planning for them, the system could be at risk. Stakeholders, clients, and the continuation of the project itself could be jeopardized. Every measure of maintenance and support is used within the implementation of the Patient Management System for PFCH.

A post-implementation review of the now operational system was conducted. The review of the PFCH end-product will include feedback on user satisfaction, effectiveness of security features, usefulness, and quality of the system/user documentation, system output accuracy, the reliability and efficiency of the system, and the training effectiveness and quality. Particular interest will be held concerning the cost-benefits analysis accuracy, project documentation accuracy, and if the project management involving resource allocations, scheduling, and that all standards for maintenance are met.

Four types of maintenance practiced in the project of implementing the system for PFCH: Corrective, Adaptive, Perfective, and Preventive maintenance. Corrective Maintenance involves the detection and correction of errors that become apparent during system operation (Shelly, Cashman & Rosenblatt, 2010). If any changes are performed during the implementing or testing of the system, corrective maintenance will provide the necessary adjustments. Detected errors are usually found during the implementation phase; however, errors may have occurred earlier on. These errors are fairly minimal in count.

Adaptive Maintenance is appropriate when new features are added to the system or any...
