Effective communication and communicators in a business is absolutely imperative when it comes to the success of a business; every aspect and all concerned with it require communication. In essence, the communication between those involved can potentially make it or break it. Communication can be conducted using a range of different tactics, verbal, nonverbal, written or electronic. In interviewing a respected co-worker Willie Mack Hill, I will discuss the varying forms of communication and his perspective on business related communication circumstances.

It can be observed that all companies greatly value effective leaders and communicators. These businesses use an array of mediums and tactics to communicate effectively. Willie states he learned to be a great communicator through trial and error, watching and learning from other “great” communicators and by taking communication and leadership courses. Also, he joined Toastmasters International to help with public speaking. Again, in today's team-oriented workplaces, the development of good interpersonal communication skills is an important key to success. Communication is a two way process and as speakers, we sometimes focus exclusively on the information that we want to relay. But your listener or reader may understand your message, understand only a portion of your message, or miss your point entirely even though you transmitted the information accurately by your standard. Great communicators know that it is not enough merely to deliver a message. The message must be received for communication to be successful. Willie expresses he likes to engage his audience fully, he understands the send/receive model, he knows the importance of receiving or listening to be as important and critical as sending the message, without listening, it is impossible to personalize and respond to the message.
