Leadership Assignment #11

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs is an excellent example of leadership in the business world. Despite many difficulties, he managed to lead his company, Apple, to be one of the most successful businesses in the world. His personal innovation and knowledge were certainly helpful, but it was his ability to lead others to follow his example that truly made him a good CEO.

Steve Job understood that in order to have influence over his company, he needed to set a business culture that was in line with his own goals. To do this, Steve used his position as CEO to set the example for all managers at Apple. He created an atmosphere that would make innovations thrive within the company, and not die due to poor leadership. In a way, Steve Jobs built a company where everyone could be a leader.

Whether you were a top manager or a lowly line worker, you could lead in your position and in the company. No idea was turned down simply because of the managerial rank of the person. Steve inspired his employees to lead, innovate, and create. So it’s no wonder that Apple as a business leads, innovates, and creates at such a successful level.

I think it’s important to Steve that he leave behind a successful company that will continue to benefit the world after he’s passed away. This is why I think he mentioned how everyone is going to die. He wanted to point out the fact that one leader may be successful in life, but eventually he will die and that company will falter without leadership.

Because Steve Jobs built his company to support and encourage leaders, I don’t think the company will suffer because of the loss of Steve Jobs as CEO. The company surely will have some detrimental effects due to the loss of Steve’s personal talent and ability, but others will step up. And as long as that idea that everyone can be a leader is fostered at Apple, I think the company will succeed.
