Case Study 1 Introduction This report analyzes data provided by Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc. (BIMS) to investigate the causes of increased turnover in the Douglas Medical Center (DMC), and to provide recommendations to Barbara Tucker, General Manager of BIMS for further workplace improvement. This report was prepared by Team A Consultants, and includes an interpretation of the raw data, data charts to illustrate response patterns, and recommendations to further understand and reduce the causes of employee turnover. The historical turnover rate in the Douglas Medical Center was an industry norm of 55% to 60% bit it has climbed over 74% during the past 4 months. Turnover must be

controlled if BIMS wants to be able to maintain acceptable levels of productivity, service, and profitability. Survey data were collected from the three departments managed by BIMS and was analyzed collectively and for each department individually. The BIMS Human Resources Manager prepared the survey instrument used to collect the data and BIMS staff completed data entry. Current Situation in Douglas Medical Center Barbara Tucker, General Manager for BIMS for the Douglas Medical Center oversees three divisions; Food Service, Housekeeping, and Physical Plant/Maintenance. Reporting to Ms. Tucker are three Division Managers. Flora Torres manages the Food Service Division that provides meals to all hospital staff as well as to the public through the operation of six cafeterias. This staff also provides specialized meals for patient care units. This division employs 129 fulltime and 106 part-time workers in a 24-hour operation.
