INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING

INTERACTIVE SPREADSHEETS

Interactive spreadsheets allow you to complete selected end-of-chapter problems and receive immediate feedback on the accuracy of your solutions. Using a collection of Microsoft Excel features, the interactive spreadsheets provide a visual approach to show you the accuracy of every answer.

A digital video is available on your CD to show you how to use interactive spreadsheets. This Instructions document will assist you in getting the most from the digital movie and in using these innovative spreadsheets.

Required Excel Knowledge

Using interactive spreadsheets does not require an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel. At a minimum, you should be able to:

• Open a file.

• Select cells using use the arrow keys and mouse.

• Enter data.

• Select items from a list.

• Print and save the file.

A small number of interactive spreadsheets require the use of a ROUND function; on-screen instructions are provided to assist you in creating these functions.

Learning to Use Interactive Spreadsheets

Before working any problem using an interactive spreadsheet, watch the digital video to learn how to use these spreadsheets.

1. Ensure you have speakers or headphones connected to your computer.

2. Double click on the file Using Interactive Spreadsheets.

3. Watch the digital movie (running time: approximately 6 minutes).

4. Use the Play, Pause, and Stop buttons in the upper left corner of the screen as desired. When paused, the Beginning, Rewind, Forward, and End enable you to navigate through the movie.

Audit Your Understanding

After watching the digital movie, answer the following questions to assess your knowledge of interactive spreadsheets. Then check your answers with the solutions that appear at the end of this Instructions document.
