ADMINISTRATION VS MANAGEMENT

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

In the last lesson of English for Business, there were enrolled definitions for the roles of a manager and an administrator. Mainly, a manager was defined as a person who is responsible for strategic planning, controlling activities and working with a group of people to achieve goals. On the other hand, an administrator was defined as a person who executes plans from the management thus taking into account the manager’s decision and taking part in the definition of procedures, policies and rules.

I don’t agree with these statements because in, my point of view, it is all the other way around. But first of all, before we enter into this discussion on the definition of a manager and an administrator, we need to understand that on the end of the day, either were are talking about a manager or an administrator, this two persons appear under the structure of organizations, lucrative or non-lucrative, with specific goals that need to be achieved effectively and efficiently.

Nevertheless, the figure of manager and administrator need to have a clear definition of who is who, who does what, how and when, especially in big organizations like banks or corporations for instance. That’s why this discussion is very important and pertinent above all talking about Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

According to Daft (2003), “administrators are on top of hierarchy and are responsible for the organization as a whole. They establish the organization’s goals, define de strategies to reach them, monitor and read the external environment and take the big decisions. They see the future in long term and are concerned with the success of all the organization. Between the most important responsibilities among the administrators is the communication of a vision, the shaping of the corporative culture and the enhancement of entrepreneur spirit that can help the company to face demanding changes of the market.” On the other hand, Daft...
