• This week, you have been learning about education in the context of infant/toddler care and through the insightful perspectives of two sensitive and introspective infant/toddler caregivers/teachers, Anna and Chana. And next week, you will further explore what it means to be a teacher by reading about three other exemplary preschool teachers.

For your Application Assignment (due in Week 2), you are required to interview an infant/toddler or a preschool teacher to help you gain further insight into the profession of teaching and working with children in these age groups, discover misconceptions, and begin to develop your own definition of "education."

Plan:

• Confirm the interview appointment.

• Print out and review the Teacher Interview Sheet.

• Think about what you have learned about appropriate education and effective care for the age group with which the caregiver/teacher works.

• Plan to use a laptop computer, audio recording device, or notepad to record your interview responses. When recording, be sure to obtain the caregiver/teacher's permission. Also, make sure to use only the first names of teachers and/or children you mention, or use fictitious names.

Implement:

• Using the Teacher Interview Sheet, conduct the interview process before the end of Week 2.

Reflect:

• Review your interview notes and consider the knowledge and insights you gained from this experience.

• Relate your interview experience to what you have learned about quality infant/toddler or preschool care and education and the role of adults in the lives of young children.

• Consider:

• How the information that you gleaned from the interview compares with what you have learned in your coursework so far...
