Intro/Pollution as a Problem

Has one ever wondered what pollution is, why it is a problem economically, and what is the solution to that problem? Pollution is any contamination of air, soil, water, and the environment. Sound, meaning loud noise is also a form of pollution (Pedi, 2011). Pollution has people have had to determine how to dispose of it, meaning, and society has to determine how to get rid of the waste produced by humans, animals, etc. Considering the fact that in civilizations, waste piles up more rapidly than the forces of nature can digest it (McGraw-Hill, 2010, p. 98). This pollution problem is one of the most serious problems that we as a society face and it has to be fixed so that we all may live better as a society and not perish economically or physically.

Major Impact to Society

Pollution has effects society and its ecosystems in four major ways. It affect society by air, water, land, and economically, making life more difficult for humans, plants and animals. According to Bethany Weiman, from National Geographic, children and elderly are especially susceptible to the health effects from the toxins of pollution (Wieman, 2011). Obviously, Pollution has a major effect on everyone and all life and needs to be fixed in any way possible.

Air pollution

The first form of pollution is Air Pollution, which consist of solid particles and gases. There are five major types of wastes are dumped into the atmosphere; carbon monoxide, making the atmosphere less hospitable, both colorless and odorless. Carbon monoxide mostly comes from cars being driven. Sulfur Dioxide is the second source of air pollution. It causes damage to both plant and animal life when heavily concentrated (McGraw-Hill, 2010, p. 99). The third major air pollutant is nitrogen oxides.
