English 102 Final Reflection

After completing two college courses of English, I find myself more prepared for courses that will involve more writing and critical thinking. I’ve been trained to think about my thinking which is called, “Metacognition” and think harder than I did before. As a writer it always seems to be tough to complete a perfect essay. Even at times when I feel I have, it’s still not good enough. I tend to be repetitive at times and have excessive use of common words even when I try hard not to do so. To maintain good sentence structure can also be tough. As I continue to give my all, as a writer, reader and thinker, my skills have improved greatly. I believe practice makes perfect and I strive for perfection.

Within this English Course, there was an introduction to great poetry and movies. One of my favorite movies we were assigned to watch was “We Were Soldiers”, this movie was the best movie I have watched this year and I didn’t even want to watch it at first. I totally had a whole different perspective on war movies before I watched this one. This movie really stayed stuck in my mind for days and now everything I watch or see regarding war, makes me so emotional. Sad to say before watching “We Were Soldiers” I felt like whoever went to war was dumb and I really didn’t understand any of it at all. After watching “We Were Soldiers” I felt ignorant and bad for thinking the way I did. I also feel I have more interest in watching or hearing about war stories than I did before, which is good for me, because I used to feel so bored and irritated in the past when assigned books and articles based on war. I have now learned to appreciate the good and the importance of it all.
