From my past experience, while teaching Art and design to the secondary pupils at Unity College Rose belle, I noticed that, however relevant and interesting the designed syllabus might be, Yet it can be developed further so that the pupils can acquire a range of techniques, develop a sense of value and attitude and think creatively and analytically. The interest of my students can be raised through selected art and design activities.

. Lesser opportunities are given to them for challenging tasks where they can show their involvement and inner self. All human beings are born with certain potential hence if we value these lesser able students, they can do better.

Form four is a preparatory year for Form Five, hence the syllabus is examination oriented. The pressure to complete the syllabus is present and there is often less scope to explore different teaching strategies which can be applied to render the subject more accessible to students which can enhance teaching and learning. Often the low-achieving students seem at a loss and when working alone many seem uninterested. However implementing appropriate teaching and learning through the use of collaborative learning strategy one among few can be applied and linked with field trip and art and music which are very popular among adolescents thought we tend to ignore it. Later, it will become a powerful tool for teaching and learning to take place using digital devices.

I have found that many students drop art at Form IV level either because they find the subject difficult to grasp or they are not interested at all. There is a decline in the number of students showing genuine interest in art subject and art activities. Relatively fewer students opt for art at S.C or H.S.C levels.

Therefore, the syllabus and the curriculum we are planning give us often less scope to explore different teaching strategies which can be applied to render the subject more accessible to students and which can enhance teaching and...
