Managerial Position

The Manager interviewed for this paper is a part of the management team for a global multi -billion dollar company named Eaton, which was founded in 1911. Eaton’s headquarter is located in Cleveland, Ohio USA, and has customers in more than 150 countries world wide. This company employs approximately 80,000 people and is still growing and striving to expand. This organization has a range of responsibilities that reflect a diverse group of stakeholders. These stakeholders have various levels of authority, and responsibility for each project, and depending on whom they are and, what the project entails, their influence may change over a projects life cycle. Eaton has various types of stakeholders both within and outside of its organization. Employees, Managers and Shareholders are some types of internal stakeholders, while Suppliers, local communities, distributors and the Government are examples of external stakeholders. Each of these stakeholders contributes to the influences of the company; there are also hidden stakeholders who are usually environmental groups.

The first line manager interviewed for this paper manages the company’s Consolidated Transactional Center. This department deals with the company’s Project Management Group which has major projects ranging from $250k plus, as well as the Customer Service Centre for the Eaton Canadian Division. This manager’s primary functions involve defining, supporting and supervising employees, overseeing customer service, recognizing sale opportunities, meeting the company’s goals and objectives all while organizing staff, projects and processes.
