To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter concerning the “Dead Beat Parent” section in our local newspaper. I feel this does not need to be a part of the paper. If the child of this so called “Dead Beat Parent” was to see this, I am sure it would upset them.

Everyone is able to witness this part of the newspaper, even the minors. I feel as if this material is not appropriate for children of our age. If a child’s peers were to see this, they may be looked at differently because of their parents. I don’t feel as though this is fair to the children. They may even be embarrassed of this matter. I know I would.

A friend of mine’s father was named a “Dead Beat Parent” . When she saw this, it took her by surprise. Her father had not paid child support for her. I understand he is not the greatest parent in the county, but he is still her father. People were calling him names over the internet. When she saw this she did not know what to think.

People looked at her differently after this. That proves my point, if minors did not have access to this part of the paper, these things would not come up. I feel and so should you, that even though these parents have done something to deserve this, these are still parents of the children.

I don’t see how we can be so quick to judge fathers or mothers of things, rather than trying to encourage or improve the problem in place at that time. In my honest opinion, I feel as though placing one parent of the child in the newspaper will put more stress on the other parent to be perfect.

Sincerely,
