Keller Graduate School of Management
Subject
The subject of this proposal is hospital admissions and patient satisfaction improvements.
Overview of Organization
Roseland Community Hospital is a nonprofit short term acute care hospital on the south side of Chicago. Roseland has a total of 162 staffed beds and serves the Roseland neighborhood. Total patient revenue for Roseland Community Hospital is $182,473,915. According to the American Hospital Directory, in 2011 Roseland had a net profit income of $542,394 (ahd.com, 2013). Roseland has $542,394 available to use for hospital improvements.
Business Problem
Roseland Community Hospital needs to attract more insurance paying patients. In 2010, Roseland had $19,200,000 written off in uncollectible accounts (Maidenberg, 2011). Attracting more patients with insurance will decrease bad debt. Currently, Roseland is competing with two other neighborhood hospitals for a portion of insurance paying patients. Patients at Roseland Community Hospital complain of long wait times (throughout the hospital) and not being able to see a doctor at all. Patient satisfaction for Roseland is low. Only 42% of patients who attend Roseland Community Hospital would recommend it to friends and family (US News and World Report Health, 2013). The Illinois state average for patient satisfaction is at 68% (US News and World Report Health). In order to attract more patients to the hospital, patients need to be serviced and satisfied with the services provided.
