From the first day ti entered the operation forces until now I have always looked up to my mentor (Sgt) Smith. He has guided me and helped share me into the well-rounded leader that I am today. Sgt Smith has been the one that I wanted to mentor me because he took care of the Marines under his charge, is dedicated to the mission accomplishment, and leads from the front.

Sgt Smith also taught me to take care of your Marines; I take this very dear to heart because when I had an issue he would go out of his way to assist me with solving the issue. When I was at the worst of times I could always rely on him for some assistance. He was one of the few Marines that would put down what he was doing and take from his liberty time to ensure that you were taken care of. He was very approachable and lots of Marines trusted him with assisting them with any issues that came up either professional or personnel. If one of my Marines has an issue I do what I can to help them, and if I can’t I will find someone that will be able to. Because of Sgt Smith I take pride to ensuring that my Marines have someone looking out for them at all times.

One of the most important things to being a Marine is mission accomplishment, our job is to get the job done no matter what the sacrifices are that we have to make. Sgt Smith lived for getting the mission accomplished. Sgt Smith was dedicated to mission accomplishment because he showed great tactical knowledge. He was the go to person for all military occupational specialty related issues. He taught me that knowledge is extremely important for a data network specialist. It is our job to get the satellite terminals communicating and other Marines downrange are relying on us. He showed me why we do what we do and how it affects the Marines that are at the forward operating bases. He helped me understand the big picture of our mission as a support role to the infantry. He had a great pride in mission accomplishment and helped instill that pride...
