Speaking a Second Language

I highly believe knowing how to speak a second language is a skill most people do not have but could benefit from. Knowing how to speak a second language gives you many advantages in life. It opens doors for jobs, makes traveling easier, and helps you communicate clearer with other people.

It gives you many opportunities in the work world. Most jobs ask you on applications if you can speak any other language then English and ask you to list which ones you can speak. Most jobs prefer to hire someone who can speak another language. They might not tell you this but it’s a greater advantage for their company. Many jobs consider knowing a second language as having greater experience. With my own personal experience working at a job it would have been a lot easier for me to communicate with some of my customers and co-workers if I could have spoke a second language. On the job I would have to try to figure out what was being said or try to get help from another co-worker. This makes things harder and can even frustrate the customer. I also believe knowing a second language improves customer service and helps you provide accurate service. Accurate service is a high priority at most jobs. Speaking a second language can also benefit you in many ways on the job; you can receive a higher pay or move up to a higher position.

We can also benefit from speaking a second language when it comes to traveling. It is very hard to travel when communication becomes hard because of language. For people who like to travel to foreign countries knowing how to speak another language can be very helpful and a great advantage. Most times you will need an interpreter to help understand what others are saying or to be able to read. If an interpreter is not around communication can be very hard almost impossible. Traveling around the world can be a great experience if we can communicate with others and understand what is being said.
