Paradigm of Interdependence
* According to Covey the victories that occur in our personal development come first before our public victories.
* Independence is the core of interdependence.
* You need one for the other.
* Building Relationships takes adding the right ingredients to work
* Most important is to add Who We are
* NOT what we say or do.
* This can give off the sense of duplicity by focusing on building relationships from generic HR techniques
* Use your inner core A.K.A the Character Ethic
* Not your Personality Ethic
* Covey states that interdependence increases an enormous amount of possibilities to better ourselves and relationships we have built
* Relationships are more deep and meaningful
* Unfortunately, with a deeper and more meaningful relationship, one also is more exposed to greater feeling of pain.
* You experience greater productivity
* Allows you to give better service
* Allows you for more valuable contribution
* Gives you the opportunity to grow as an individual
* To experience the maximum benefits of interdependence we have to identify and nurture the relationships that are at the core of the benefits.
* Covey refers to our body as having an Emotional Bank Account
* This account is describing relationships and the Production versus building Production Capacity balance needed to achieve interdependence.
* This example illustrates how trust is built on a relationship.
* Deposits = Positive behaviors.
* Build the account reserve
* Withdrawals = Negative behaviors
* The goal is to maintain a high reserve balance
* This gives us a higher degree of patience for our mistakes and more open communication with others.
