Legal issues Impacting Human Resource Development
When comparing and contrasting employment law (in general) and affirmative action, one must consider the objectives and goals of each regulation. Employment law is a list of laws that consists of administrative rulings. These laws include all areas of the employer-employee relationships. Employment laws are governed by federal and state statutes. They are administrative regulations and judicial decisions. Employment law includes: discrimination, wages, unemployment reimbursement, annuities, workplace safety, and worker’s compensation (Employment Law, 2010).
As mentioned before, there are several sections under the employment law. These include: ABA - Section of Labor and Employment Law, Agricultural Labor Affairs Coordinator (ALAC) - Agricultural Labor Laws, Child Labor Protections, ELaws - US Department of Labor, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Employment Law - Definition, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family and Medical Leave Act, Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959, Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA), National Employment Law Institute (NELI), Unemployment Compensation Law - Overview, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, US Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Department of Labor, US Department of Labor - Civil Rights Center, US Department of Labor - Wage and Hour Division (WHD), Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act (Employment Law, 2010).
