Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts

Businesses who uses the organizational behavior terminology and concepts often promote change to create a better and more productive work environment. Organizational Behavior studies how people and groups act in organizations and how it is applied within the same. Usually it is done by taking a systems approach which means it interprets relationships both people and organizational in terms of the whole group, person, and organization. Its key purpose is to build better relationships. Some of the key concepts of organizational behavior are organizational culture, diversity, and communication. By gaining and understanding this knowledge, each employee should be able to realize how their individual actions contribute to the big picture of the organization.

Within an organization, Organizational Culture is emphasized. It is the shared belief and values which influences the behavior of employees. In simple terms, it is the personality of an organization. Being able to communicate with everyone in the organization is a key goal for a company, so meeting the expectations of the organizations culture is one way to make sure that the employees and the staff of the organization keep the door open for feedback, because this is something that organizations believe in. In order for an organization to have strong cultures, they must operate with a “clear vision of their future business which is provided by well-developed and well-communicated beliefs and values.” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, and Osborn, 2008). This would categorize the organization to a high-performance organization, along with performance, members of the organization will be able to become more attentive to teamwork and innovation along with encouragement in risk taking.
