Purpose

Two websites will be evaluated to find out if they would be helpful in finding information about becoming a Certified Public Accountant. The websites being evaluated are the Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) and AccountingEdu.org. There will be eight areas of each website evaluated to determine if they would be beneficial to someone who is researching how to become an accountant. The areas that will be evaluated for both websites will be their reputation for honesty and reliability, if the source is potentially biased, the purpose of the material, if the author is credible, where the website obtains there information, if the source can be verified, the latest date the website was updated and if the information provided is complete. The information being provided in this evaluation will allow someone to make an informed decision whether or not these websites will be helpful in finding the information needed to become a CPA.

The information on this website is obtained from sources such as the Office of the General Inspector and the U.S. Department of Labor which give it an honest and reliable reputation. The website offers information on all types of jobs and careers which makes the website an unbiased one. The information on this website provides readers with information on how to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) along with median salary information, job outlooks, and contacts for more information in the accounting field. The website obtains the information on how to become a CPA from the U.S. Department of Labor’s 2012-2013 handbook. The author of the information on how to become a CPA is not listed on the website so it is difficult to determine his/her credibility.
