“Plagiarism is considered an ethical violation and is punished by a failing grade for a paper or a course or even by dismissal from the institution.” I have always been taught that it is not the right thing to do and that the original author can sue you and ultimately ruin your reputation. Plagiarism is stealing and stealing is illegal.

To start this paper I want to take the time to define the 2 Three Primary School of Ethics I am going to use in my example. The first that I chose was rules based ethics which means that there are certain rules, regulations, and policies that a person is suppose to abide by. The rules might not necessarily be laws, but could be considered a moral obligation that shows that you did your own work and understand the concepts that you were taught. If you purchase a paper online you are not being fair to yourself, your teacher, or your classmates. It shows that you have a false sense of the understanding about the topics that the teacher taught you, and ultimately you are the one that is hindered the most. It teaches you that there will always be an easy way out without having to work hard to excel in your education. By doing the work on your own, you will also be taught about honesty and integrity which will eventually assist you in being successful in everything that you strive to accomplish.

The second will be End-Based Ethics which is when a person does whatever will produce the greatest good. Although the greatest good in this case might be that the student is weighing the option of getting a guaranteed A for turning in someone else’s work against losing 20 hours of their time researching the subject and carefully articulating the studied work into a proper paper. Life gets so busy at times that it just seems easy to purchase a paper online and turn it in as one of their own.
