You are likely to work for bureaucracies. How do you think this will affect your orientation to life? How do you think this will affect your orientation to life? How can you make the “hidden culture” work to your advantage?

According to Essentials of Sociology, bureaucracies are social groups characterized by a hierarchy, division of labor, written rules and communications, and impersonality and replaceability of positions. The company that I currently work for has bureaucracy. The politics of my position can be found all the way from the part time positions thru the president of the company’s office however, it is easily avoidable due to my company smaller size.

Typically my day to day functions in my office consist of direct interaction with several co-works and my supervisor. This helps me from becoming alienated from my other co-works and different areas of the company. The benefit of me working with a smaller group helps me to complete daily task that are assigned to me more efficient and quickly. By resisting alienations, I have developed a personal and working relationship with my immediate supervisor and co-works. In previous companies that I worked for, there was a great deal of alienation, red tape and a severe case of lack of communication. Although the office setting was small, and very similar to my current company, my immediate supervisor set the tone for the office by not speaking to employees, having very poor communication skills and lacking competences. His idea of self-fulfilling stereotypes produced a set of individuals that gave way to havoc on the office by trying to prove a point that they were superior to other employees. In doing so, incorrectly confirmed his stereotype that other individuals in the office was lazy because they did not meet his unreasonable demand
