The automobile industry in India is one of the vital components of Indian economic growth. The industry has developed at spectacular rate over the last past years. The industry has, today, reaches 35 billion USD as turnover and provides indirect as well as direct employments to around 13 million people. India’s per capita disposable income grows at 13.62% as per 2013 and is expected to rise by 106% by 2015. This rise is due to the growth in export and rude competition in the Indian’s automobile industry with the new players like Ford, BMW, General Motor, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda and Nissan. The key players are Tata Motors which leading the commercial vehicle market with about 64%, Maruthi Suzuki with 46% of the market share, Hyundai Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra. But Mahindra & Mahindra is the market leader in multi-utility vehicles and the second largest in the passenger vehicle market.

Mahindra & Mahindra is well known for multi-utility vehicles and tractors in India. The company oldest unit is its automotive division founded in 1945. This division manufactures jeeps and three-wheelers (not passenger "auto rickshaws," but utilitarian delivery and flatbed incarnations). The other division of the company is farm equipment founded in 1963 during India’s green revolution, manufactures tractors and industrial engines.
