Narrative Paragraph

The goal of a narrative paragraph is to tell a story. This can be :

a) a retelling of events(true story)

b) a fictional story put forward as real events

c) a fictional story of any kind – simple or science fiction

Steps to writing a narrative paragraph :

1) Brainstorm

• Write down your ideas as they come to you, and then organize them afterward or create a thought web (central idea in the middle/other ideas around it). Organize them afterwards.

When this step is completed, all ideas are secured on paper.

2) Write your draft

• Basing yourself on your brainstorm, now you write out your ideas.

• Your story must be written in the third-person form, even if you are writing about yourself. Ex : “he, she, it, they….a person, one, someone…”

• Format :

Opening sentence : one general sentence to prepare the reader for your story.

Ex : One lazy summer afternoon….” “When Kathy was thirteen…”

Ideas and details(the actual events and details of the story is told)

Closing sentence : One general sentence to conclude your paragraph.

Ex : “ It was the greatest day of his life” “From then on, they were the best of friends”.

• Writing your draft should be done quickly, depending on how well you organized your ideas in step no. 1.

3) Rework your draft

• The quality of your finished product is decided by how well or how seriously you undertake this task. In other words, the more time you put into reworking your sentences, checking verb tenses, and checking spelling in the dictionary, the better your paper will be. This is the most important part of writing !!!

4) Final Copy

• This is the last step in writing. At this point, most of your errors have been corrected, but you have no more time to verify any more errors. You must write your final copy and accept the fact that you did your best with the...
