1. How long will it take you to fill a rush order?

26 minutes. Assuming Kristen started the rush order at the beginning of the process, “mixing and cleaning”.

Mixing and Cleaning- 6 minutes

Spooning cookies- 2 minutes

Placing tray into oven- 1 minute

Bake time- 9 minutes

Removing cookies from oven- Negligible

Cooling time- 5 minutes

Packaging cookies- 2 minutes

Accepting payment- 1 minute

2. How many orders can you fill in a night, assuming you were open 4 hours each night? 22 batches. Excel document attached. There is an excess of 4 minutes at the end of the night because the batch 23 would not have enough time to cook/cool/pack/pay.

3. How much of your own and your roommates valuable time will it take to fill each order?

8 minutes for Kristen and 4 minutes for the roommate for a total order time of 26 minutes.

Kristen

* Mixing and cleaning – 6 minutes

* Spooning cookies – 2 minutes

Roommate

* Packaging cookies – 2 minutes

* Accepting payment – 1 minute

4. Because your baking trays can hold exactly 1 dozen cookies, you will produce and sell cookies by the dozen. Should you give any discount for people who order 2 dozen cookies, 3 dozen cookies, or more? Will it take you any longer to fill a 2 dozen order than a 1 dozen order?

No because the purpose of giving a discount would be to drive demand. We are at max capacity due to oven constraints. Since the oven process takes 10 minutes (1 minute to load, 9 minute to bake), the process cannot be any more efficient. Therefore, there is no justification to offer a discount.

Yes, due to the fact the oven can only handle 1 dozen cookies at a time, it will take you longer to fill a 2 dozen cookie order rather than a 1 dozen cookie order. An order for 1 dozen cookies will take 26 minutes, and an order for two dozen cookies will take 36 minutes. See attached excel chart.

5. How many food processors and baking trays will you need?

1 food processor and 2...
