Halliburton's Management Planning

Halliburton is an oil drilling and oilfield service company that operates in more than 70 countries throughout the world and has more than 50,000 employees. Their top priority is "to offer competitive, safe and superior quality products and services" (Halliburton, 2010, Sustainability, p. 1) and Halliburton's mission statement that guides their global operations is as follows:

To be welcomed as a good corporate neighbor in our communities; to do no harm to the environment; to provide demonstrable social and economic benefits through sustainable relationships, sustainable technology and sustainable sourcing; and to validate our progress through transparency and reporting. (Halliburton, 2010, Sustainability, p. 1)

As a leader in energy production, Halliburton is structured in two focus area divisions: Drilling and Evaluation and Completion and Production. With Halliburton's primary headquarters in Houston, Texas, they have established a second headquarters office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to better service customers in the Middle East area of Asia.

Management at Halliburton faces many challenging obstacles in the execution of their mission and planning is the most crucial of all of management's functions. To guide their global services, management developed the Halliburton Management System (HMS) and it is the foundation for their day-today risk management and defines the steps for service delivery and the risks and controls related to and associated with individual tasks. The HMS outlines all steps involved for individual process and also identifies who is responsible for each task and their responsibility to ensure protection of employees, assets, and the environment.
