1. Summary

Xerox is the company which provides digital systems like printers, copiers, and fax machines. And it also provides professional services such as online document archives, document share knowledge and so on. Xerox is focusing on diversity. CEO in Xerox thinks with the diversity, all employees can use their fullest potential. It is not only both high officers and recent idea, but also all employees and traditional company’s idea. The first chairman of Xerox hired African Americans to achieve equality in 60’s. Xerox made an internal affirmative action in 70’s so they hired huge amount of minority employees. In 80’s Xerox had the first African American minority president of a division. Xerox also started “flex time” and other polices to relieve burden of stress which is made by work and family. In 90’s Xerox established sexual orientation. In 2007 there was first African American female president in Xerox and after her term, there was another female president in Xerox. It was the first female-to-female hand-off in Fortune 500 history. In statistically, workforces in Xerox, more than 50% are woman and minorities. Xerox’s senior executives who are woman, people of color, or both are 48.2%. Magazines rated Xerox top 10 companies which are hiring minorities, women, disabled, and gay and lesbian employees.

2. Questions

2-I How would Xerox define diversity? How has its definition changed over the years?

Xerox defined diversity is the key to success their business. They think with diversity employees can make innovative solutions.

At first, they cared about only races such as African American. But as times by they began to also focus on sexual minors, and females. It means they extended the definition of diversity.

2-II Does Xerox embody or defy the “leaking pipeline” phenomenon? Why?
