At Prime Therapeutics, we take in a lot of information from many different areas on a daily basis. Our members send in their insurance information, fill out a membership profile with all their personal information on it and they send in their prescriptions. The three main applications we use to store that information are Rx Express, AS400, and Filenet. These three applications handle most of the work load at Prime. These applications are used primarily to make the member’s account information available for processing new prescriptions, refills, or just paying a bill.
The use of databases at Prime is essential to getting the job done on a daily basis. The need for storing data is high because the type of business that Prime is. In a mail order pharmacy there is so much data that needs to be entered into the computer to have on hand for the members to be able to send in their prescriptions and get them filled quickly. Rx Express and Filenet allow the employees to store information for future reference. This allows the member to call in a prescription and not need to have all their personal medical information with them at all time. This is a convenience for the member that they really appreciate. AS400 is a national database that shows prescriptions received anywhere in the United States, member profile information, Medicare insurance coverage, and all doctor information in the United States. This database is a great tool because it can be used to find a doctor’s DEA number, determine if someone has prescription insurance, and can show the frequency of certain medication purchases.
Conclusion: Ideas for improvement
Rx Express and Filenet need to improve their performance and efficiency by becoming more user friendly. Many times the programs seem to lock up or close by themselves leaving the user to start all over again with their task. Daily updates should be retrieved from the company that owns the...
