Communication Trends in the Restaurant Industry
The 10 trends in business communication affect all businesses; large, small, nonprofit, government, independent, or corporate. The fact is one cannot exist as an entity without being affected by the ten trends in business communication. The changes range from technology changes to balancing work and family. To demonstrate the 10 trends I will lay out the trends and how they to play in day to day activities at work in the restaurant industry, and how the trends help manage daily work activities. I will base the 10 trends from the text, Business and Administrative Communication (Locker & Kienzler, 2008).
Technology Changes
The first trend I will discuss catches a large amount of attention because of the mass of information and the rate of change, more on the rate of change will be discussed in the last trend. In the workforce technology has taken charge. Technology is a necessity for businesses, even for the simplest of transactions. Imagine the last time you went into a restaurant that did not accept credit cards, or did not have a computer. A task as simple as scheduling, has everything to do with technology, from entering the data onto to a spreadsheet, printing out the schedule, and posting it on the restaurants internet dashboard. As a restaurant manager technology is involved in the majority of day to day functions, it has improved the frequency, immediacy, and clarity of communication.
Focus on Quality and Customers’Needs
According to the text, Business and Administrative Communication, customer satisfaction among American consumers is on the rise, and communication is at the center of the focus on quality and customers; needs (Locker & Kienzler, 2008, p. 18).
