As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Middlefield Hospital, it is my duty to ensure we can satisfy our mission in providing full care to our patients ensuring they are well taken care of and feel comfortable during the duration of their stay. It is also my duty to guarantee our employees are qualified and satisfied while working here so that the mission is done properly.

In this detailed report, I will provide strategies and recommendations to overcome our workforce shortages and improve employee morale.

It has been brought to my attention that our employee turnover rate exceeds 20% and there are over 100 nursing vacancies. I will do my best to ensure our turnover rate decreases and the 100 nursing vacancies are filled with qualified nurses.

I will be focusing on: How we can boost our employee morale, bringing in qualified workers and overall making this hospital the number one hospital.

Strategies

My first priority in making this hospital number one is making sure that my employees are well taken care of. When workers feel that they are being heard and feel appreciated for the work they are doing, they will enjoy working there. By boosting morale in this hospital, my strategy will be incentives, by way of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.

As Amanda Jacobs writes in her article Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation, “Intrinsically motivated people engage in an activity simply because they like it. They are, in my opinion, “life-long learners” or understand joy in doing. They learn or do a task because the reward *is* the task, or the process of the task itself. Extrinsic rewards diminish the joy.”

In order for this to work, I will need to know my employees on a professional and somewhat a personal level to gain insight on what type of person they are and what they react to as ways of motivation. What they enjoy and what pushes them to want to do better in their jobs....
